Typhoon Jebi hits Japan forces closure of Kansai airport, near Osaka

A major international airport in western Japan has been closed, with thousands of people evacuated, in the wake of deadly Typhoon Jebi.
Kansai airport, a major transport hub serving Osaka, Kobe, and Kyoto, was cut off when an ocean tanker hit and damaged its bridge to the mainland.
Jeb, Japan's most powerful storm in 25 years, has killed at least 10 people.
It has left a trail of damage to infrastructure, ripping off roofs, overturning vehicles and cutting power.

Mercedes takes on Tesla with fully-electric SUV

German carmaker Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its first fully-electric SUV, in a bid to take on US rival Tesla.
The subsidiary of Daimler says the EQC, which has two electric motors, will have a range of more than 450km.
It will start rolling off production lines at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen in 2019.
The firm is investing more than €10bn (£9bn) in the expansion of its electric range, and more than €1bn in battery production.
The new SUV is the first model in a range of ten EQ cars that Mercedes plans to launch by 2022.
Facebook, Twitter impact on election goes viral analysis
Facebook and Twitter are being questioned by US senators, to find out how they will prevent meddling in upcoming elections.
Facebook is being represented by its chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg, while Twitter sent chief executive Jack Dorsey.
As anticipated, Google did not show up.
Opening the hearing, Democratic Senator Mark Warner said he was "deeply disappointed" that Google "chose not to send its own top corporate leadership".
The Senate committee is focusing on what the technology giants are doing to prevent future election meddling.
EMIRATES PLACE LANDS AT JFK AIRPORT CARRYING SICK PASSENGER
An Emirates Airline plane from Dubai was quarantined Wednesday soon after it landed in New York City to treat about 10 passengers who reported feeling ill, officials said. Officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was called to John F. Kennedy airport after Emirates Flight 203 landed about 9:20 a.m., New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio's spokesman Eric Phillips tweeted.
