1. Trump calls for CNN boss Jeff Zucker to be fired

US President Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump has attacked CNN's president Jeff Zucker on Twitter, saying that he should be fired.
President Trump said CNN's "hatred and extreme bias" towards him made the media organization "unable to function".
"Little Jeff Z has done a terrible job, his ratings suck, & AT&T should fire him to save credibility!" he tweeted.
Mr. Zucker is currently on six weeks' leave from CNN to recover from having heart surgery.

The outgoing UN human rights chief says Myanmar's de-facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi should have resigned over the military's violent campaign against the Rohingya Muslim minority last year.
Zeid Ra'ad al Hussein told the BBC the Nobel Peace prize winner should have considered returning to house arrest rather than excusing the military.

3. Macron: French 'Gauls' resistant to change, unlike 'Lutheran' Danes

President Emmanuel Macron has angered opponents by accusing French "Gauls" of being resistant to change.
On a visit to Copenhagen, Mr. Macron said his attempts to remodel labor laws were impeded because the French were not as open to reform as "Lutheran" Danes.
Opposition politicians accused him of showing "contempt" for his own people.
Mr. Macron later rowed back slightly, saying his comments were meant to be humorous.
The French leader came to power on a pledge to overhaul France's enormous labor code. He has long stated his ambition to move towards a more "Nordic model".
His speech in Denmark was not the first time he has used a foreign visit to highlight what he sees as the resistance to those reforms.
Last year, on a visit to Romania, Mr. Macron said France was "not a reformable country", adding: "Many have tried and failed, because of the French hate reforms."

4. Top Indian activists held over caste violence

Five prominent Indian activists have been arrested in connection with caste-based violence in the western state of Maharashtra earlier this year.
Sudha Bharadwaj, Gautam Navlakha, and Varavara Rao were picked up from their homes in different Indian cities.
Police in Pune later confirmed that Vernon Gonsalves and Arun Ferreira were also under arrest.
The homes of other leftist lawyers and scholars were also raided as part of an investigation into the violence.
Five others with Maoist links were arrested in June in connection with the same investigation.
Police say that the activists incited Dalits (formerly untouchables) at a large public rally on 31 December 2017, leading to violent clashes that left one person dead.
Dalit groups had gathered in the city of Pune to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Koregaon. Dalits regard the battle - in which they fought alongside British colonial forces to defeat an upper-caste ruler - as the first battle against caste oppression.
But a day after the rally, clashes broke out between Dalits and right-wing groups, who reportedly opposed the celebrations.

5. Roy Oliver: Ex-police officer jailed for Jordan Edwards shooting

An ex-police officer has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for shooting dead an unarmed black teenager in Texas.
Roy Oliver, who is white, fired a rifle into a car that was driving away from a party in Dallas in April 2017, killing 15-year-old Jordan Edwards.
It is very rare for police officers to be convicted of shooting deaths. Oliver's lawyers say they intend to appeal against the verdict.
Jordan's family say the jail sentence is too lenient.
"He can actually see life again after 15 years - and that's not enough because Jordan can't see life again," his stepmother, Charmaine Edwards, said.
